An old couple has lived underground in a well for over ten years in Zhengzhou, capital of central China's Henan province. The couple’s 50-square meter room is 5 meters underground below a well-shaped hole, which is designed for the air conditioning facilities of a university in Henan.
The couple both worked at the university, as the wife responsible for turning on and off the air conditioning machines every day and the husband involved in maintenance work. They planned to live in a rented place at first but found it costly and inconvenient. Now, their underground room is equipped with necessary household appliances, such as TV, refrigerator and washing machine.The wife says she has gotten used to the dim light and moist air in the crowded space. The only trouble for her is the loud noise from the air conditioning machines.
