See Reason Nigerian Police Gave For Arresting Biafran Supporters Yesterday

The Anambra State police command on Tuesday arrested scores of supporters of the embattled director of Radio Biafra, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu at various places in Awka as they embarked on protests in the state capital.

The protesters, including women, carried placards with various inscriptions, marched from Amawbia to the Government House, demanding that Kanu be released. Mr. Ikechukwu Okoye, the Anambra State coordinator of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, said their demonstration was not meant to cause any trouble, but to prevail on security operatives to release Kanu.

Confirming the arrest, the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hosea Karma, said, the protesters were causing breach of peace along the Enugu-Onitsha expressway. The CP said, “there is nothing like Indigenous People of Biafra. Those people constituted nuisance on the high way and that was why they were picked." He added that anybody who disturbs the peace that exists in the state will not go unpunished.
