Tragedy As MOPOL Officer kills Mother of Nigerian Tennis Star, Angel Macleod

The Nigerian tennis community was thrown into mourning on Monday as an official of the Mobile Police Force (MOPOL) allegedly shot dead the mother of teenage tennis star, Angel Macleod.

Macleod’s mother was allegedly killed by a bullet that emanated from the unnamed policeman, who was reportedly engaged in a slight fracas with the deceased at a Lagos hotel, according to eyewitnesses.

Vanguard Newspaper that the Mopol, who is a guard at the hotel premises, had hit the deceased, who reportedly hit him back with an object and incensed by the retaliation, he subsequently fired a shot from his gun, which subsequently resulted in the death of Macleod’s mother.

It was learnt that Macleod is in a state of shock as her deceased mother was her all in all, catering to her every need. Macleod, who is 14 years old, is the leading light in the junior category of Nigerian tennis, excelling at all competitions she has participated in thus far.

Investigations are ongoing and it is hoped that justice will be prompt as the police seek to repair its battered image
