Doctors at the Babcock University Teaching Hospital, yesterday carried out their first heart surgery at it was successful.
The patient, a 34-year old woman was operated upon yesterday at the varsity’s hospital with other 15 critical care personnel in the operating theatre to provide different required services. They included perfusionists, cardiac operations nurses, internists and anesthesiologists.
The operation lasted for 6 hours. According to the doctors, that will kick start heart surgeries in the varsity’s hospital, noting that some surgeries will also take place today and others on the waiting list will also get subsequent dates for their surgeries.
