At least 16 people have been killed in an attack on a village in Niger by suspected Boko Haram militants, according to reports. The raid occurred overnight in the Diffa region, where the government has declared a state of emergency.
Niger is one of several regional countries - along with Nigeria, Chad and Cameroon - that have joined forces to try to defeat Boko Haram, a militant Islamist group based in Nigeria.
