A freight train carrying some 200,000 liters of sulpuric acid derailed 20 kilometers east of Julia Creek, northwest Queensland in Australia, on Sunday morning, with the extent of leakage remains unclear, says local police. Three train staff members were slightly injured. The site declared an emergency and a 2-kilometer exclusion zone was imposed. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
Sulphuric acid is a highly corrosive substance that can cause severe burns on contact with skin.
