Real Madrid have been disqualified from this season's Copa del Rey after Denis Cheryshev was fielded as an ineligible player during the round-of-32 clash against Cadiz on Wednesday. The Russian scored the opener in a 3-1 victory, but it later emerged Cheryshev should have been serving a one-match suspension.
ESPN's Dermot Corrigan added the club's appeal would likely be heard next Wednesday by the Spanish federation's appeals committee then would go to Spain's administrative court the following Friday, if necessary.
The 24-year-old picked up his third yellow card of the 2014-15 Copa del Rey campaign during a fixture against Barcelona in March while on loan at Villarreal, incurring his one-game ban as a result.
