Filipinos marked one of their significant religious festivals, the Feast of the Black Nazarene, by organizing one of the biggest processions in the country’s capital Manila on January 9. Barefooted men and women in the procession hurled themselves amid huge crowds to touch the centuries-old icon of Jesus Christ, which is believed to have a miraculous power.
The festival’s history dates back to the 17th Century when the statue of Jesus was brought to Manila in 1606.
