James Huggett
A brave woman has used social media to nab her tormentor who tried to rape her while forcefully walking her home one night.
A brave woman has performed a major feat after she successful traced a 22-year-old man who attempted to rape her using his profile picture on Facebook. The man was jailed seven years for attempted rape.
Maidstone Crown Court heard that James Huggett approached 21-year-old Chanel Purchase while she was waiting to meet a friend in Sheerness High Street at around 12.30am on Sunday, April 13.
He invited her back to his address but when she refused he insisted on accompanying her back to her home. As they walked, he attempted to rape her. The victim screamed for help and Huggett subsequently fled. After the attack, Ms Purchase, who has waived her right to anonymity, tracked him down via Facebook and informed police.
Chanel Purchase spent time searching the Facebook for the man
She told ITV News Meridian how she did it. According to her, she searched Facebook for hours looking for pictures of the 22-year-old after the victim had earlier told her names of favourite close friends. She found the man's picture through one of his friend's on Facebook after numerous searches and sent it to the police. The incident was confirmed by Kent Police who wrote:
"Her efforts in identifying Huggett allowed police to secure his arrest within 6-7 hours of the incident and I would like to thank her for her help and courage throughout the investigation and court process.
"I hope Huggett uses in time custody to reflect upon the impact his actions have had on the victim."
