Three students decided to take drastic measures to avoid the wrath of their parents after they were suspended from school for a simple case.
It was drama recently as three students at Tabaka Mixed Secondary school in Kisii County, Kenya allegedly drank hydrochloric acid to avoid what they called 'unfair suspension'.
News24 reports that the students wanted to end their lives because of the repercussion should their parents know that they have been suspended.
The students were rushed to hospital by motorbike taxi operators who found them lying unconscious in an abandoned lane on Tuesday.
The Star reports that the three were suspended after they were caught with mobile phones, against the school rules.
“A teacher who found us with the gadgets told us to take our belongings and leave. He told us to clear school fees for the whole year and also pay electricity bill for the month before seeking readmission. We decided not to go home because the expenses were too high,” one of the victims told Citizen TV.
After leaving the school compound, the girls went to Kisii town where they bought the acid before drinking it at the same time.
Doctors at the Nyamira County Referral Hospital, where they were admitted, say they are now out of danger.
