The scene of the crime
A man has shocked family and friends when he sent his mother to her early grave in a most cruel manner after accusing her of being evil.
A man, Mark Stephens, killed his frail mother by stabbing her in the head and face with a carving knife and fork, Mirror Online reports.
Roger Thomas QC, prosecuting, told Swansea Crown Court where the 44-year-old Stephens was charged, that the man had earlier been in a pub drinking pints and double vodkas where he described his mother Rita, 67, as“the epitome of evil”.
The prosecutor said after killing his mother on the evening of Friday, June 19, last year and placing a blanket over her body, he fell asleep, waking up the next morning to go out and get himself some food and a bottle of whisky.
When his sister Kirsty later rang worried that she could not contact their mother by phone, Stephens allegedly told her she was “sick in the toilet”.
Stephens, the jury has been told, admits the manslaughter of his mother and accepts he attacked and killed her but he denies murder on the grounds of loss of self control.
Opening the case, Mr Thomas told the jury: “During the late evening of June 19 last year Mrs Rita Stephens was viciously and brutally murdered in her own home in Tonteg, Pencoed, Bridgend, by her son.
“There is no dispute he’s the person who killed her, however, he denies murder and has admitted manslaughter but the prosecution does not accept it.
“We say there is clear evidence he is guilty of the offence of murder and that is the issue which you have to resolve.”
The case continues.
