A villager from Linju county, Shandong Province in China has built his own “castle,” which consists of seven floors, all on his own, which shocked millions of people online. According to a report by Qilu Evening News, a local newspaper, the building was built by a 55-year-old villager named Hu Guangzhou, who suffers from personality disorders.
Hu said it took him three years to build his house, only using waste materials, like dirt and scraps. During the construction process, he once fell from the second floor, and that “humiliation” is what caused him to continue to build five more floors.
Local government officials said that they tried to move Hu to a home for the elderly, given that he doesn’t have any spouse or children, but he refused to move. Considering his mental condition, local officials have also declined to demolish the building, despite obvious safety concerns.
