It was sheer surprise and panic mid-air through a flight as a man attempted to open the door of a plane causing people to fear for their lives.
An easyJet flight to Gatwick had to make an emergency landing after an extremely drunk passenger tried to open the door at 30,000ft.
The man – said to be British and in his 30s – had been charging up and down the plane before wrestling with the hatch.
The plane diverted to Bordeaux in France, and the man was arrested.
The man had started drinking spirits from duty free shortly after take off from Marrakech in Morocco on Monday.
Witnesses said he shoved his girlfriend after she tried to calm him down.
A passenger said, ‘He was drinking rum or whisky. Air crew took the bottle off him but it was too late.’
An easyJet spokesman said: ‘EasyJet can confirm that flight EZY8896 from Marrakech to London Gatwick on 7 March diverted to Bordeaux as a result of a passenger onboard behaving in a disruptive manner.
‘The aircraft was met by the police on arrival at Bordeaux and the passenger disembarked."
