Claudia Melgar
A really heartbreaking video has shown the moment a young woman tragically drowned to death in flood waters which submerged the road.
The shocking footage has been released by police warning of the dangers of driving in floodwaters after they claimed the life of a young woman.
The lady, Claudia Melgar, 25, was driving her white SUV on Monday and ignored a road sign warning of the danger.
She drove around a tow truck blocking the road in Harris County in Texas, USA, after heavy rains flooded the area.
The distressing video shows Claudia coming to a stop in the deepest part of the floodwaters.
A short time later, a flashlight or possibly the light from a mobile phone, can be seen shining through the rear window. But then the car starts to nose dive, and all of a sudden the entire car is submerged.
Dash cam footage from the toll truck showed a worker, dressed in high vis clothing, running towards the stricken vehicle and trying to get to the driver.
But tragically he was unable to reach her in time.
The incident happened at around 6am, with investigators estimating the flood water was at least 17ft deep.
Claudia, a Houston Community College student, is one of eight people that have died due to the 'unprecedented" floods.
She had texted her mother early Monday morning to say she was on her way home after leaving a nightclub and asked her if she needed anything.
"That was the last we heard from her," Melgar's cousin Linda Rodriguez said.
Her body was discovered on Tuesday when water had been pumped from the road by the fire service.
More than 1,000 people have been forced from their flooded homes in the Harris County area, with many elderly people and animals needing rescuing after becoming trapped.
Around 200 flights were cancelled at Houston's Hobby Airport, while more than 120,000 residents were left without power.
Schools, public transport, city offices and the county jail were all closed on Monday after the downpours.
