The bizarre moment three men were spotted floating down a river inside a fridge sparked a coastguard rescue operation last night.
Baffled witnesses reported the unusual "Hawaiian-type craft" to the coastguard after spotting the men sailing it down the River Dee in Flintshire, north Wales.
But by the time rescue crews arrived at the scene of the hilarious sighting, the men had already abandoned ship having dumped the makeshift boat near river bank.
Flint Coastguard Rescue Team confirmed they launched a search operation in the Connah’s Quay area at around 7.34pm on Tuesday night, according to Wales Online .
The fridge, which they described as a "Hawaiian-type craft", has now been removed and taken to a safe area.
A spokesman at Holyhead told the Daily Post: "The three guys ran away. All that was left was the fridge.
"It wasn't just a fridge. The outrigger they placed was just like a Hawaiian-type craft with a float attached to stop it capsizing.
"There was no sign of the men afterwards because they'd "scarpered".
Following the incident, Flint Coastguard Rescue Team posted on Facebook : "Team paged by Holyhead CGOC to reports of persons floating down the River Dee in a fridge in the Connah’s Quay area, once CRT on scene persons had left the area leaving behind the fridge on the rivers edge.
"CRT removed fridge to a safe area making sure it won’t float again.
"Many thanks to the first informant and members of the public for helping us with our enquiries. Team stood down and returned to station."
