Daisy is a happy child any time she's in the water
A baby born without eyes from birth has become a source of inspiration as the little tot has wowed many with her swimming talent.
This is the touching story of an adorable baby who was born with no eyes but is at her happiest when her mum takes her for a dip in a swimming pool.
Giggling 13-month-old Daisy Smith can’t contain her laughter as she splashes around with her caring mum Danielle, The Sun reports.
The cheery little girl became blind as a result of a rare condition known as anophthalmia. During pregnancy, Danielle was warned that her unborn baby had a cyst on her brain, but the determined mum decided to go through with it.
Daisy was born with anophthalmia - where the eyes aren’t formed properly during pregnancy - which affects around one in every 10,000 babies in the UK. Tragically, Daisy’s sight isn’t her only sense to be impaired, as the tot also suffers with glue ear, making her heavily reliant on touch.
South Wales mum Danielle explained: “After we got over the shock we realised that Daisy is just like any other baby...
"We were offered a termination but I am so glad we didn't take it. We made the right decision."
Despite all these struggles, Daisy is “always happy” and is growing into a super swimmer. To help with her mobility, Daisy’s family take her to regular swimming and physiotherapy sessions.
She is now doing absolutely well. The mom revealed that since she began paddling in the Serrenu Children’s Centre pool, in Risca, Newport, she instantly felt at home.
Danielle revealed: “We want her to have a normal childhood.
“Swimming was part of that but we were amazed how much she took to the water.
"Now when we go every week Daisy's remembers the sound of the creaking doors at the swimming pool so she knows where she is and starts laughing."
Baby Daisy currently uses expanders to open up her eye socket, but the family are in talks with London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital to get glass eyes made up.
Mum-of-three Danielle explained: “They work as expanders to keep her eye sockets open.
“As she grows they will fit slightly larger ones until she can have glass eyes.”
Daisy is a happy child and soon might grow into a world swimming champion.
