A man has shocked many in his community by taking his own life after his family refused his wish to sell a family land.
The body of the 32-year-old from Seka village, Homa Bay County in Nairobi, Kenya was found lifeless and dangling from his roof.
Neighbours said Amos Otieno committed suicide after his family members stopped him from selling a piece of land.
It was alleged the family refused to grant his wish to sell the land because he had sold several other parcels of land before and this was the only remaining one, of which they hoped would help other members of the family.
“He has sons and daughters that need to be brought up with resources from the land but he had sold the largest part of his land. The family members intervened to protect future life of the children who will need the land and we suspect that might have made him take away his life,” said the relative.
Rachuonyo North OCPD Joseph Kisombe confirmed the incidence although adding that they had not yet established why the Otieno had decided to take away his life.
According to News24, the deceased’s body was taken to Gendia Hospital Mortuary even as investigations into the matter continue.
